A photo of The South Shore National Bank once located at E 71st & S Jeffery Blvd in The South Shore neighborhood of Chicago. Photo credit by Pat Hammond. When we lived in the South Shore neighborhood in the 1960’s, my father had our bank accounts there until we moved to Roseland in June 1969. On E 71st Street next door to the bank was Jeffery Theater. The buildings are still there, and the bank has gone through a few changes over the years. It was called Shorebank and then to Urban Partnership Bank until it finally closed in 2014. A couple of years ago, there were plans to demolish the building and build a new restaurant, bowling alley and a new theater. As of October 2018, according to Google Maps, the building is there. I haven’t heard anything new since. We shall see. The community needs something there desperately. Thank you.
